Could a visit to Iran from an American actor spark better relations between the two countries? The State Department acknowledged Monday that actor Anthony Quinn has been invited to attend a film festival in Tehran.
"We certainly think that these kinds of people-to-people ties between the two nations are a positive development," deputy spokesman James Foley said.
Iranian newspapers reported Monday that Quinn, 82, had been invited to attend the Fajr festival held every year on the anniversary of the Islamic revolution.
There was no word on whether the actor would accept the invite, but if he attends he would be the first American star to visit Iran since the 1979 revolution.
