The City of Tonawanda Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting for 6 p.m. Monday in the administration building to put the finishing touches on a superintendent contract and possibly appoint Diana D. Greene to the top post.

Ms. Greene, a former Putnam County educator, was offered the Tonawanda job almost two weeks ago, but attorneys for both sides are still negotiating the terms of the agreement. The board is not expected to approve the appointment until contractual matters are settled.

Trustees had hoped to appoint a new administrator before the holidays to be assured of having the post filled by Feb. 1. James C. Holler, the current superintendent, has announced plans to retire after Jan. 1.
