JFK SLOOP, MEMORABILIA TO GO ON AUCTION BLOCK

A collection of more than 500 documents and artifacts and a racing sloop once owned by President John F. Kennedy will be auctioned in March, Guernsey's auction house announced Tuesday.

Guernsey's said many of the items were personal articles of Kennedy and most were from the collection of the late Evelyn Lincoln, secretary to Kennedy from 1953 until his assassination in 1963.

"But a handful of other collectors have stepped forward with additional pieces including the president's sailboat and two rocking chairs to give the offering even more significance," auction house president Arlen Ettinger said.

Ettinger told a news conference that the highlights of the collection included handwritten diaries of the president, an antique desk he used in the Oval Office, family photos and Kennedy's first and favorite sailboat -- the 22-foot Star class sloop known as the "Flash II".
