CANCER SOCIETY GETS OK TO USE LEW-PORT TRACK

The Lewiston-Porter School Board has agreed to allow the American Cancer Society to use the school district's track and stadium facilities for a Relay for Life on May 29.

The event allows families, employee groups and civic organizations to gather to take up the fight against cancer. "The Relay for Life has become the national signature event for the American Cancer Society," said Carl Filbert, community director for the American Cancer Society.

Teams will walk or run on the track for a specified duration. "We have selected Lew-Port because we feel the facilities are the finest and most secure in the Western New York region," said Filbert. He added that participants and their families will be safe throughout the daylong event.

"Our ultimate goal is to provide a high quality family-oriented event that will provide money to fight cancer," said Filbert. This will be the second race of its kind in Niagara County -- last year's event was held in Lockport.
