The condition of an unconscious woman found beaten and tied up inside a trashed West Side apartment Tuesday afternoon worsened to critical today, authorities said.
Carmen Pino, 26, was found bound with telephone cord inside an apartment at 260 Niagara St., in the Shoreline Apartments. Police said relatives had last talked to her Monday night and when they didn't hear from her, they enlisted the help of an apartment manager to get inside.
"She was beaten severely about the face and head," said Capt. Joseph Riga, chief of the Homicide Bureau, noting investigators have been unable to speak with the woman because of her unconscious state.
Ms. Pino was taken to Buffalo General Hospital, where her condition deteriorated overnight, authorities said.
The apartment in which the woman was found was believed to be the same visited by gunmen in late October, when one man inside was shot.
