Niagara University sophomore swingman Nate Bernosky underwent surgery to repair a broken jaw Monday and could miss the rest of the Purple Eagles' basketball season.
Bernosky suffered the injury when he hit the floor diving for a loose ball in Saturday's 63-60 loss to Youngstown State at the Gallagher Center.
The surgery was performed at the Erie County Medical Center and Bernosky is officially listed as out indefinitely, although his return this year is in doubt.
The 6-foot-4 Bernosky started six of Niagara's first seven games, averaging 2.3 points and 2.3 rebounds. He averaged 4.1 points and 2.6 rebounds last year.
If he does not return, Bernosky won't be eligible for a medical red-shirt season because he sat out 1995-96 for developmental purposes.
The Purple Eagles are 2-5 heading into Friday night's game with St. John's in the Holiday Festival at Madison Square Garden. The first game pits Drexel against No. 18 Princeton.
