MARION E. MCDERMOTT, LOCKPORT TEACHER

Marion E. McDermott, a retired first-grade teacher who taught in the Lockport City School System for 37 years, died Sunday (Dec. 21, 1997) in the Briody Nursing Home.

Miss McDermott, 78, was born in Bradford, Pa., and was a graduate of Geneseo State College. She received her master's degree from Buffalo State Teachers College.

She taught for a time in rural schools in Cattaraugus County before coming to Lockport, where she taught first grade at North Park and Anna Merritt schools.

Miss McDermott was the former president of the Business and Professional Women's Club and a former member of Alpha Delta Kappa. She belonged to the New York State Retired Teachers Association and the prayer groups at St. John's and St. Bridget's Catholic churches. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St. Burial will be private.
