Dear Megan:

My girlfriend and I are about to celebrate our one-year anniversary. The only problem is, I don't have a clue what to get her. I really do love her and I want to get her something special. What should I do?

Dear Clueless:

Buying gifts is rarely easy, no matter how long or how well you know the person. Actually, the longer you've known the person the harder it is to buy them something because you've already bought them the things they want.

But as a general rule, most girls like flowers, and a rose or two is always a good idea. Some like jewelry. A locket with both your initials inscribed on it makes a special gift.

Going to a play or a soccer game are other gift ideas. And if money is a problem, things like poems and home-baked cookies are good ideas. A drawing or a framed picture of the two of you also is something she might like. Or you can always make a collage of things that you and she have shared together.

Whatever you give her, make sure it's from the heart. That will guarantee that she'll love it.

Got a problem? Write to Megan in care of NeXt, The Buffalo News, P.O. Box 100, Buffalo, N.Y. 14240.

Megan is really Lauren Richardson, a sophomore at West Seneca East High School.
