Josephine Johns of Carolina Avenue, who served with the Navy WAVES in World War II, died Saturday (Dec. 20, 1997) in Lockport Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was 73.
The former Josephine Maderos was born in Folsom, Calif.
During the war, Mrs. Johns served as yeoman first class at Hunter College in New York City and at Treasure Island Naval Base in San Francisco.
She was a charter member of WAVES National and the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
Survivors include her husband, Carl; two daughters, Charlene Schickli of San Diego, and Marie Higgs; a son, Daniel; five sisters; and two grandsons.
