BOOKS: A book fair to benefit the Police Athletic League of Buffalo will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 3 at the Barnes & Noble stores at 1089 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst, and 7370 Transit Road, Williamsville. The PAL will receive 20 percent of sales made at designated checkout lines.

BOWLING: A Jan. 18 tournament at Frontier Lanes in Lewiston kicks off the new six-event Western New York Armed Services Sports Championship for active and retired servicemen and women. Call Niagara Falls Air Base Recreation Services at 236-2328.

SOFTBALL: Coaching staffs of Sweet Home High School and St. John Fisher College will conduct a clinic for high school and middle school girls Jan. 18 at 8:30 a.m. at Sweet Home. The $40 fee includes a pair of Reebok spikes. Call Mike Tojek at 689-5270 or 834-1917.
