Paul Scouras of Buffalo died Saturday (Dec. 20, 1997) in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. He was 97.
Born and educated in Romania, he immigrated to the United States in 1951 and made his home in Buffalo.
He served as a ship captain for American Export Co., a commercial shipping company, from the 1920s until 1945. He worked briefly for General Mills in the early 1950s and retired in 1956 from Painters District Council 4.
He traveled all over the world and spoke 17 languages.
Scouras was a past member of the Order of AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association).
Survivors include his wife, the former Eleni Pandelis; three sons, Peter of Orchard Park, George of Elma and Angelo of Huntington, L.I.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Amigone Funeral Home, 1132 Delaware Ave., followed by services at 10 in Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 146 W. Utica St. A Trisogion will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Elmlawn Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.[ulrch]
