PARK RANGER BEATEN BY TWO MEN IN THE BRONX

Police are searching for two men who allegedly beat a Bronx park ranger with his own nightstick in Van Cortlandt Park.

The officer either stopped a stolen car or interrupted the men while they were trying to break into a parked car Sunday night, a police spokesman said today.

The ranger was not carrying a gun, police said. He was an employee of the Parks Department.

His name was not immediately released. He was listed in stable condition in St. Joseph's Medical Center, Yonkers.

Police sent canine search teams and helicopters to the park Sunday after the ranger called in the attack.

They were still searching for the men early today.
