LACKAWANNA BOY, 15, HIT BY CAR ON MCKINLEY, KILLED

A 15-year-old Lackawanna boy was killed Sunday evening when he ran in front of a stopped bus on McKinley Parkway near Milestrip Road and was struck by a car.

Jeremy Piontkowski of Berg Road was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital a short time after the accident, which occurred at 6:18 p.m.

Witnesses said the boy was with two other boys, who police said were coming from the McKinley Mall and were headed for Toys R Us.

"The victim along with one of his friends had walked in front of a Metro bus, which had stopped to pick up passengers in front of Pizza Hut at McKinley near Milestrip," Hamburg police said in a statement.

"The victim ran out in front of the bus into the northbound lane of traffic on McKinley Parkway. A northbound vehicle apparently never saw the youth and hit him."

No charges were placed against the driver, Holly E. Castanza, 20, of West Seneca, but the Accident Investigation Unit will continue on the case.
