Batavia and Genesee County are planning to join the state in a sales tax-free week next month on clothing and footwear purchases.
The County Legislature will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m.. today to beat the Dec. 29 deadline for counties to approve the plan.
The City Council's agenda for a regular meeting, to get under way at 7:30 p.m., includes a resolution to exempt clothing and footwear purchases less than $500 from the sales and use tax during the week of Jan. 17-23. Genesee has an 8 percent sales tax. Half of that is kept by the county and divided among the city and towns.
