Reinsman Jack Flanigen guided The Stashman to his eighth win of the year in a sizzling 1:57 4/5 as Buffalo Raceway ushered out its 1997 fall meet.

The $3,800 feature race had six entrants including the victor, who was assigned the far outside post position. The Stashman stormed to the front, cut quarter fractions of :28 3/5 , :59.0 and 1:29 1/5 , then coasted to a three length triumph over Always A Leader, who was sent off as the even money betting choice. The Stashman, who had raced primarily at Cleveland's Northfield Park this fall, returned $5.60 to win.

For the first time since 1972, there will be a break in the Western New York harness racing circuit. Buffalo Raceway will close for six weeks and is scheduled to reopen Jan. 30. Simulcasting, both thoroughbred and harness, will continue in the offseason.
