A West Side man dangled his 7-year-old stepson by the feet from a second-floor window early Saturday, while disciplining him for misbehaving in school, authorities said.
Thelbert Joseph attempted to have the boy's mother participate in the discipline, but she refused. When she didn't, Joseph slapped the child and picked him up by his feet and hung him out the window, according to accounts offered by authorities.
"He also told me to tell him to jump (out the window), but I wouldn't because I don't play with kids that way," said the boy's mother, Tina Joseph, 36, of 562 Seventh St.
"I ran out of the house, and he pulled my son back in the window and freed him. My son ran out, too, and I called for police," Mrs. Joseph said.
What had the child done at school?
"He was acting up in class. He wasn't doing his work, and they kicked him out Friday because he peed on another boy's coat," Mrs. Joseph said.
At Buffalo Police Headquarters, Joseph was booked on charges of endangering the welfare of a child, assault, menacing and harassment.
Joseph apologized to his wife and stepson, Mrs. Joseph said.
How did the 7-year-old respond to the apology?
"He told him, 'OK, Daddy,' " the mother said.
