A Stockton man is charged with assault for allegedly hitting a woman who was driving him home Friday night after refusing to take him to a bar.

The woman told Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies she was giving Norman Jankowski, 39, of 6250 Cardinal Road a ride home.

While they were driving along Bowers Road, Jankowski became upset when the woman would not go to a local bar with him, and he started to hit her in the head.

She stopped the car and got out, but Jankowski followed and kept hitting her. The woman ran to a nearby home for help.

Jankowski fled, but with help from a tracking dog, officers found him a short distance away in a field.

He was charged with third-degree assault and sent to jail in lieu of $250 bail.

The woman was treated in Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk and released.
