ARTHUR A. OLEY

Arthur A. Oley, 80, of Williamsville, a former gas station operator and mechanic for the Amherst Parks Department until his retirement in 1990, died Thursday (Dec. 18, 1997) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst.

Born in Erie, Pa., he lived in Williamsville most of his adult life.

From 1947 until 1960, Oley and his brother Edward operated Oley Brothers Service Station at Main and Los Robles streets in Williamsville. He then worked for the Town of Amherst until his retirement.

He was an active member of St. Stephens-Bethlehem United Church in Amherst. His hobbies included mechanics, small engine repairs and collecting and repairing broken bicycles and giving them to needy families.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel E. Dittmar Oley; a daughter, Susan K. Jaros, newly elected Amherst town clerk; a son, Gregory S. of Tucson, Ariz; two brothers, Edward and Norman; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today in St. Stephens-Bethlehem Church of Christ, 750 Wehrle Drive, Amherst.
