State police have been investigating a state comptroller's audit suggesting that as much as $7,000 in excessive overtime payments were made last winter to four Town of Arcade Highway workers.
Supervisor A. Douglas Berwanger said the audit failed to consider all the variables and that the alleged over-payments have not been proved and 1997 plowing spending was similar to 1996 spending. He also said that Wyoming County District Attorney Gerald L. Stout had been kept informed. The audit was requested by Highway Superintendent David Frost who was on injury leave during the 10 weeks when snow plowing was needed. The Town Board chose John Becker as a temporary deputy superintendent during his absence. After Frost returned, Becker resigned to accept a post in adjacent Yorkshire.
