Buffalo Police Officer Anthony L. Watkins pleaded guilty Friday to violating a departmental regulation that required him to file a report with the State Police after he purchased a handgun last August.
Chief City Judge Thomas P. Amodeo granted him a conditional discharge, sparing him a possible 15-day jail term or a $1,500 fine.
Watkins, 34, was suspended without pay for eight days after his .25-caliber automatic was seized in a Koons Avenue drug raid three months ago.
He pleaded guilty to the non-criminal violation of disorderly conduct.
Amodeo ordered Watkins, who currently is assigned to the Telephone Reporting Unit at headquarters because of recent back surgery, to pay $45 in court costs by Jan. 9. But the judge sealed the court records on the case.
Watkins, a 10-year veteran of the force, said he plans to return to street duty at the Genesee Station as soon as his doctors give him the OK.
