John S. Friona, 67, former operator of the Friona Trucking Co., died Thursday (Dec. 18, 1997) in his Dana Drive home after a long illness.
A native of Niagara Falls, Friona was a 1948 graduate of the former Trott Vocational High School. He served in the U.S. Army for several months in 1951, during the Korean War.
Friona operated his family trucking company until the 1970s. He later was an operating engineer, working for various contractors with Operating Engineers Union Local 463. He retired in 1987.
He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 247.
Survivors include his wife, the former Dora Messina; a son, John N. of Chandler, Ariz.; three daughters, Doreen Carden of Niagara Falls, Diane Libman of Atlanta and Anna Marie Irish; a sister, Rose Marie Stack of Youngstown; a brother, Anthony; and four grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter Catholic Church, 620 Center St., following prayers at 9:15 in the M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel, 468 19th St., Niagara Falls. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls.
