21 HONORED FOR CRACKDOWN ON TELESHARKS

Eighteen law-enforcement personnel and three journalists received awards last week from the U.S. Justice Department for cracking down on telesharks and informing the public about telemarketing scams.

Interim U.S. Attorney Denise O'Donnell said the Western New York Telemarketing Task Force, The Buffalo News and WKBW television played a major role in eliminating most telemarketing scams that were operating in the Buffalo area.

Honored during a ceremony last week were: John Busse, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Division; Christopher Jordan, Timothy Koerner and James Husted, Secret Service; Robert Sulecki, Michael Kirkpatrick and Thomas Flechsenhaar, State Police; Molly McMinn, Thomas Moehring and Ronald Baranowski, Postal Inspection Service; David Todtenhagen, Peter Trinkwalder, Wendy Horth, Timothy Sullivan and Christine Rejewski, FBI; Marc S. Gromis, Anthony M. Bruce, Joseph Karaszewski, U.S. attorneys; Dan Herbeck and Michael Beebe, The Buffalo News; and Mary Travers, WKBW television.
