A tractor-trailer broadsided a school bus this morning on a fog-shrouded highway, killing the bus driver and injuring at least 18 children.
The tractor-trailer ran into the driver's side of the bus as it crossed busy highway U.S. 50, nearly severing the front of the bus.
The injured were taken to Easton Memorial Hospital and Meridian House of the Pines, a nursing home close to the scene, where the hospital dispatched a medical team, said Patty Willis, a hospital spokeswoman.
Ms. Willis said 18 children were treated. The extent of their injuries was not known.
It was not known how many children were on the bus.
Some of the students were headed to Easton Middle School, the school's principal said. A school district spokeswoman said that, based on the time of the accident, it was probably also carrying high school students.
