A ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday at 10 a.m. will celebrate the inception of commuter air service at the Cattaraugus County Olean Airport in the Town of Ischua. The public is invited to attend.
Olean Mayor John Ash will head a program of prominent speakers. St. Bonaventure University president Robert J. Wickenheiser will be master of ceremonies.
Northeast Airlines, a regional airline based in Portland, Maine, will fly from Olean to Baltimore via Allentown, Pa., or Cumberland, Md. Depending on demand, Northeast hopes to develop commuter service from Olean to Newark, Cleveland and Toronto.
The ceremony marks the advent of University Charters, a private flight service operating from the airport. Management of the airport's daily operations was transferred from the City of Olean to Flight Services Group of Bridgeport, Conn., last October.
