Walter H. Meier, 80, a former Lockport resident who was the retired secretary-treasurer of the former Upson Co., died Friday (Oct. 24, 1997) in his Largo, Fla., home.

A native of Lockport, he was a World War II Army Air Forces veteran.

He moved to Florida in 1981 and was a member of Rogate Lutheran Church in Clearwater.

In Lockport, he was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, the Board of Managers of Lockport Memorial Hospital, the Lockport Town & Country Club, and the Tuscarora Club.

Meier also was a member of the Tax Executive Institute and the National Association of Accountants.

He graduated from Concordia Seminary, Springfield, Ill.

His wife, the former Lenore Baumgart, died in 1966.

Surviving are a brother, Paul of Oreland, Pa.; and three sisters, Herta Ricker of Carlsbad, N.M., Ruth Kandt of Palmetto, Fla., and Olga Arle.

A memorial service will be conducted Friday in Rogate Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Bay Pines Cemetery, St. Petersburg.
