The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to children between the ages of 2 1/2 and 18 who suffer from life-threatening illnesses. Wishes range from trips to Disney World and computers to visiting the set of a favorite TV show.
The foundation is in need of dependable volunteers to help with fund raising, special events, program services, administration and clerical work. Help is especially needed during the 4th annual Make-a-Wish Upon a Star holiday campaign which runs during November and December. No special skills are required. Call 896-9474.
The Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens Society, 2655 South Park Avenue, will hold a Volunteer Orientation Day from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. It includes a mini-tour of the gardens. Volunteers are needed to develop educational programs and children's workshops; to host special events; to staff the gift shop and information center; to work as guides and to assist in a holiday membership campaign and with plant sales.

Planning is well under way for the 102nd annual YMCA Turkey Trot. It takes place on Thanksgiving morning and race organizers expect more than 5,000 runners and twice as many spectators.

EPIC, which stands for Every Person Influences Children, is recruiting interested volunteers to facilitate workshops in Buffalo Public Schools. Volunteers will receive two days of training before being assigned to lead a workshop.
