Richard E. Freeman, 67, of Orchard Park, a retired Bethlehem Steel Corp. supervisor, died Monday (Oct. 27, 1997) in Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Gowanda, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Buffalo, he attended Burgard Vocational High School and Erie County Technical Institute and served in the Marine Corps. He worked at Bethlehem Steel for 37 years and retired as an electrical supervisor for the basic oxygen furnace in the early 1980s.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Management Club, the American Legion and the New York State Sheriffs Association. He enjoyed bowling and helping friends and family.
Surviving are two sons, Russell of Lake View and Richard of Angola; two daughters, Laura Sperling of Lawtons and Lisa Root of West Seneca; two sisters, Leona Notter of Williamsville and Hazel Joss; and seven grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, S-3148 Abbott Road, Orchard Park. Prayers at 8:15 in Lombardo Funeral Home, 3060 Abbott Road, Orchard Park, will precede the Mass. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hamburg.
