A 64-year-old grandmother convicted of obstructing official business by feeding parking meters for strangers is suing the city, her lawyer said Tuesday.
Ms. Stayton claimed that a city policeman hurt her arm and shoulder last October when he handcuffed her for obstructing his attempts to ticket cars parked at expired meters.
When she saw him about to ticket two cars, Ms. Stayton dropped 15 cents in two meters to save the owners, whom she did not know, from a ticket.
She was convicted of obstructing official business and fined $500. The fine has not been paid pending the outcome of appeals.
