MAN SHOT THROUGH WINDOW OF SYCAMORE STREET DELI

A 34-year-old man was shot with a military-style assault weapon in a Sycamore Street delicatessen early this morning.

Ocubaselassie T. Tesfamichael, who was shot in the chest and arm, was listed in critical condition in Erie County Medical Center. The bullets went through a window before striking him at about 12:55 a.m.

After a car pulled up to the Sycamore Variety Deli at 977 Sycamore St., at least one person got out of the car and fired several shots through the window of the store, striking Tesfamichael.

Homicide detectives do not know the motive and are unsure whether Tesfamichael had been working in the store, which was closed at the time.

Police are looking for the public's help in solving the shooting, said Capt. Joseph Riga, chief of the Homicide Bureau.

"One witness saw a dark-colored car, possibly a Chevy, with tinted windows leaving the area," Riga said.
