GRAND JURY INDICTS 2 IN SEPARATE FATAL CRASHES

A Niagara County grand jury Tuesday indicted two persons on charges including drunken driving and criminally negligent homicide in separate fatal crashes.

Patrick J. Harrigan, 33, of 1410 18th St., Niagara Falls, is charged in connection with the Aug. 13 collision that claimed the life of motorcyclist David L. "Toby" Rotella, 40, of River Road., Wheatfield.

Harrigan drove his Jeep from a parking lot into the path of Rotella's motorcycle about 8 p.m. at 8810 Niagara Falls Blvd., police said. Harrigan also was charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and
failure to yield the right of way.

Stanislaus F. Janicki, Jr., 30, of 5728 Leete Road was charged in a fatal crash Aug. 14 on South Transit Road. He also faces charges of vehicular manslaughter, manslaughter and failure to keep right.

Niagara County sheriff's deputies said Janicki's sports-utility vehicle crossed the center of the road, struck a culvert and crashed into a Pendleton field about 3 a.m., causing the death of his passenger, Kurt A. DeWitt, 26, of High Street, Lockport.
