REPORT CARD WEEK NINE
BILLS 20, BRONCOS 23

RUNNING GAME

BILLS (A): Antowain averaged 5.8 a carry and Thurman 5.2. Problem was they should have run more. Antowain had four first-half carries.

BRONCOS (A ): Davis showed why he's the league MVP so far this season. And the Broncos' offensive line is excellent, as well.

PASSING GAME

BILLS (C-): Turnovers keep killing Bills. INT returned for TD was bad pass by Collins. But Van Pelt gave team spark with clutch passes.

BRONCOS (C-): Davis drives Denver bus and Elway is just along for ride. Legendary QB threw two INTs and left too many men on base.

RUN DEFENSE

BILLS (C-): Yes, Davis had great day. But Denver got one offensive TD. Broncos had four straight three-and-outs to end second half.

BRONCOS (C): Suspect run pluggers got free pass in first half. Were turning into pudding in overtime. However, they sure can stop the reverse.

PASS DEFENSE

BILLS (B ): Front seven put good heat on Elway, sacked him five times and batted down some balls. Secondary got two INTs.

BRONCOS (B): Traylor's INT for TD was huge, and front four won war with Bills' blockers. But still let backup QB force them into OT.

SPECIAL TEAMS

BILLS (B): Christie makes one of best clutch kicks of his career. Coverage was excellent. But Moulds fumble on KO return cost three points.

BRONCOS (C): Super return men Gordon and Hebron were held in check. Rouen handled Rich Stadium winds well.

COACHING

BILLS (F): Looks like Levy & Co. out-thought themselves. Should have pounded Broncos with run much sooner. Reed's reverse pass was disaster.

BRONCOS (C-): Not a great showing by Shanahan, either. Should have run more to kill clock in fourth quarter. Opting to kick to start OT was shaky call.
