Buffalo police were investigating how a toddler suffered burns over much of his body.
Twenty-month-old Joseph Hooper was in stable condition Saturday in Children's Hospital, said his mother, Trudy M. Hooper of 2000 Bailey Ave. The boy suffered third-degree burns, according to a police report. The child also has bruises and cuts on his head, according to the report.
Ms. Hooper said she had left her son with an acquaintance Thursday evening and looked in on him upon her return that night. But she said she didn't discover the his injuries until Friday.
Police have questioned the man, but officials have not said yet what happened.
"They haven't told me anything yet," Ms. Hooper said. "They don't know what caused the burns. I don't know what happened."
The injuries are not life-threatening, she said, but the child may require skin grafts.
