MARYLAND RUNNER PULLS AWAY AT MARINE CORPS MARATHON

Darrell General knew it was too cold and rainy to pursue his personal best. Still, that didn't prevent him from cruising to victory in the 22nd annual U.S. Marine Corps Marathon.

General, 31, of Mitchellville, Md., ran the last 14 miles unchallenged and finished in 2 hours, 18 minutes and 20 seconds.

That was nearly four minutes slower than his personal best of 2:14:42, and the course record of 2:14:01 set in 1987 by Jeff Scuffins of Hagerstown, Md.
