INDEPENDENT AUDIT FINDS AKRON SCHOOLS IN ORDER

An independent audit of Akron Schools shows finances were well in order for the 1996-97 fiscal year that ended June 30 and the district is in sound financial shape.

The district's total revenues were $14,392,301 while expenditures came to $14,017,125. With an undesignated surplus of $336,738 at the end of 1996-97, the report -- prepared by Fox & Co. of Buffalo -- noted that the district is doing "a good job" and within state guidelines.

Sound budget policies by the board helped contribute to the surplus, District Business Administrator Loraine Loewen said.
