HUNTER SHOT BY COMPANION'S GUN

A Lockport man suffered more than 20 pellet wounds in his arms and legs in a turkey-hunting accident Sunday near Bryant Hill Road in the Town of Franklinville, state police at Olean said.

Joel L. Wendt, 48, of 5914 Meahl Road was turkey hunting with a 16-year-old companion about 9:45 a.m. when the companion's 12-gauge shotgun accidentally discharged, according to police. The name of the 16-year-old was not released.

Wendt managed to drive himself to Olean General Hospital, where he was treated and admitted for observation.

His wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
