A crowd looks on as the cornerstone is laid for the Hotel Niagara in this photo, taken March 24, 1924.

At the time of the groundbreaking on Sept. 5, 1923, an article in the Niagara Falls Gazette said the building would have "a commodious ballroom, spacious dining rooms, elegant cuisine and superior service." The newspaper added, "It attracts elaborate parties, functions and social events of the community."

The building is still standing, but it is now the Days Inn Fallsview, and its address has changed from First Street and Jefferson Avenue to Rainbow Boulevard North.
