With his two daughters running by his side, Vice President Gore completed his first marathon, finishing in under five hours.
Trailing the winner of the 26-mile, 385-yard race by more than 2 1/2 hours, Gore finished the 22nd annual U.S. Marine Corps Marathon in 4:54.20, his spokeswoman said.
Sunday was the first time Gore has run a marathon. He previously has run in races as long as 6.2 miles.
Gore, 49, raced with his daughters, Karenna, 24, and Kristin, 20.
The race, which drew 18,350 runners, ended at the Iwo Jima Memorial near Arlington National Cemetery.
The winner was Darrell General, 31, of Mitchellville, Md., who finished in 2:18.20.
