A Harvey Avenue man was arrested at 4 p.m. Friday after he was accused of attempting to rob Stamps Arco Service Station on South Transit Street at knifepoint on Aug. 29, police said.
Robert P. Waltz, 37, of 124 Harvey Ave. was charged with third-degree robbery by Detective Capt. Neil Merritt and Detective Edward Hackett at 955 South Transit St., police said.
Waltz is accused of entering the gas station at 7:35 p.m. that night, displaying a knife and demanding that Rita A. Blackman, a store employee, give him money from the cash register. When she refused to cooperate, police said Waltz threatened to hurt her. And when she still refused, police said Waltz thought better of the enterprise and fled, empty-handed, east on High Street.
