Muriel M. Murphy, former assistant librarian for the Corfu Free Library, died Tuesday (Oct. 21, 1997) in her home while under hospice family care.

She was 74.

A native of Crittenden, Mrs. Murphy was for 25 years the assistant librarian for the Corfu Free Library, where she also presided over the story hour. She was a volunteer driver for the Office of the Aging in Genesee County, a member of the Corfu/Darien Senior Citizens and an in-home caretaker for many terminally ill residents in the Corfu/Darien area.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Corfu United Presbyterian Church on Alleghany Street.

She is survived by her husband, James E.; a daughter, Darin Schlaggel of Batavia; and two sisters, Ardys of Forestville and Delores Viscusi of Lancaster.
