JUMPER'S CONDITION UPGRADED

The condition of a man who jumped out a second-floor apartment window Thursday onto his head after being arrested by police was upgraded from critical to fair Friday, a Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center official said.

Jerry Sweatman, 24, no permanent address, was taken to the hospital in critical condition Thursday evening and was listed in fair condition in the intensive care unit there late Friday.

Sweatman was injured when he bolted from a bed where he was sitting handcuffed and jumped headfirst out a window, landing on the pavement below outside 1813 Ferry Ave. Sweatman was being arrested on grand larceny and parole violation charges when he bolted out the window apparently without warning, police said.

The incident is under investigation, police said.
