The bass guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of sexual imposition, though he still denies having sexual contact with his accuser.
Oteil Burbridge, 33, of Birmingham, Ala., was fined the maximum $500 after the plea Wednesday, but avoided a possible 60-day jail sentence. His lawyer, Scott Schiff, said on Thursday that Burbridge is innocent and accepted the plea only to avoid trial and jail.
Assistant Franklin County prosecutor Angela Canepa said Burbridge called an escort service after an Aug. 12 concert. Canepa said a 27-year-old woman came to Burbridge's hotel room and had him sign a release that she would give him a massage for $125.
Canepa said Burbridge wanted more, allegedly telling the woman "he wanted an escort, not a model."
