Theo Angelopoulos' 1995 film "Ulysses' Gaze," starring Harvey Keitel, will be screened next Saturday in the Screening Room of the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts. The event will begin with a 2 p.m. champagne reception. Other screenings will be held at 3 and 7 p.m. Nov. 2. The film won the Grand Jury Prize and International Critic's Prize at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival.
The 13th annual Jewish Film Festival opens at 7:30 tonight in the Amherst Theater with Eduardo Mignangna's romantic comedy "Autumn Sun," starring Norma Aleandro, star of the Academy Award-winning foreign film "The Official Story." The festival runs through Thursday.
Commercial films scheduled to open Friday in area movie theaters include the controversial and much-anticipated film "Boogie Nights," starring Mark Wahlberg, Julianne Moore and Burt Reynolds; "Red Corner," starring Richard Gere as a lawyer imprisoned in China; the comedy "The House of Yes," starring Parker Posey as a young woman who thinks she's Jackie Kennedy; the action film "Switchback," starring Dennis Quaid and Danny Glover, and a new live-action version of Kenneth Grahame's young people's classic "The Wind in the Willows."
