Robert J. Kuhaneck, former undersheriff of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department, died Tuesday (Oct. 21, 1997) in Tampa, Fla., General Hospital. He was 60.
Born in Buffalo, Kuhaneck graduated from Little Valley Central School in 1955 and attended the University at Buffalo.
He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1959 and was a Cattaraugus County sheriff's deputy from 1961 to 1966.
Kuhaneck worked at Salamanca Motors from 1966 to 1970, then was undersheriff of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department until 1980. He worked at Bush Industries from 1981 to 1982 and served as a town councilman for the Town of Little Valley.
He later moved to Zephyrhills, Fla., and worked at the Saddle Brook Resort at the time of his death.
Kuhaneck was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Little Valley and Florida. He was also a member of the Elks in Salamanca and the Masons.
Survivors include his mother, Myrtle Kuhaneck; a son, Todd of Land O'lakes, Fla.;and a brother, William.
A funeral will be held at noon Monday in Mentley Funeral Home Inc., 411 Rock City St. Burial will be in Little Valley Rural Cemetery.
