A Buffalo police officer charged earlier this week with assault for his alleged actions in a domestic incident in St. Catharines, Ont., has been placed on desk duty, Buffalo police officials said Thursday.
Officer Milton Jeffries of the Northeast District turned himself in Monday to police in St. Catharines, according to Niagara Regional Police. He was later released on $500 bail and is scheduled to return to Ontario Provincial Court on Nov. 7.
The charge stems from a woman's allegations that Jeffries, whom she has known for three months, assaulted her at about 5 a.m. Saturday in her home. The woman, who suffered minor cuts on her hand, said Jeffries threw her against a wall, police said.
Jeffries was taken off patrol duty after he was charged and was assigned to desk duty while the criminal case is pending, Buffalo police said.
