JEAN O. SWEET, EX-TEACHER, DELICATESSEN OWNER

Jean O. Sweet of Williamsville, a former Buffalo teacher and delicatessen operator, died Tuesday (Oct. 22, 1997) in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Amherst. She was 85.

The former Jean Stroh was a Williamsville native and graduate of Buffalo State Teachers College. She taught in Buffalo schools before she was married in 1940 to Norman E. Sweet.

With her husband, she owned and operated the Eller Delicatessen in the Pine Ridge area until 1970. He died in 1996.

During the 1960s and 1970s, she was active in the Williamsville Parent-Teacher Association.

In recent years, she became involved in local politics and was a member of the Amherst Taxpayers Group and Williamsville Home Owners Association. She was a longtime member of The Chapel of Amherst.

Survivors include a son, Stephen of Williamsville; a sister, Winifred Knickerbocker of Williamsville; and two grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon Saturday in Beach-Tuyn Funeral Home, 5541 Main St., Williamsville. Burial will be in Williamsville Cemetery.
