James J. Byrne, a former Buffalo resident and retired AT&T employee, died Sunday (Oct. 19, 1997) in Thunderbird Samaritan Hospital, Glendale, Ariz., after a brief illness. He was 60.
Born in Buffalo, Byrne served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS New Jersey.
In 1976, he moved his family to Arizona.
After 32 years with AT&T as a layout operator, Byrne retired in 1994.
He enjoyed fishing, reading, fixing things, spending time with his family and friends and romping with his dog.
Byrne is survived by his wife of 35 years, the former Dorothy Sgroi; two daughters, Elizabeth of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Sharon Collura of Glendale; a son, James L. of Chandler, Ariz.; four sisters, Nora Giles of Buena Park, Calif., Marie Fenna, Edna Fletcher and Shirley Story; and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Thursday in St. Helen's Catholic Church, Glendale. Burial was in Resthaven Park Cemetery, Glendale.
