Four electronic signs that tell commuters at a Lexington Avenue subway station to "Watch your step" and "Have a great day" were invaded by computers hackers Thursday.
The signs -- two at the top and two at the bottom of the escalators -- briefly displayed the cryptic message, "Volume Fourteen, Number Three," and "The Hacker Quarterly."
"The Hacker Quarterly" is a Long Island-based magazine that chronicles the activities of computer hackers. Editor Emmanuel Goldstein said he was unaware of the incident or who may have been involved.
"I hope nobody was confused and thought it came from us," Goldstein said. "I hope it didn't cause too much chaos in the subway."
