Orchard Park residents should take extra caution watching their children because of threats made Thursday by a woman police believe is mentally deranged, authorities said this morning.
The woman made three nearly identical telephone calls to two psychological clinics in the Village of Orchard Park, threatening to kidnap and possibly rape two elementary- school children, according to Orchard Park Police Chief Robert C. Henning.
"She said she would then drop them off in front of the psychology offices so the children could be treated," Henning said. "Our detectives are working very diligently checking telephone company records, but we don't have a positive suspect at this point."
Youngsters in Orchard Park are off from school today because of a teachers conference. Monday, when school resumes, children eligible to ride school buses, Henning suggested, should make use of them because of safety concerns.
The telephone calls were made over a two-hour period, starting shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday, police said.
