SPEED LIMIT REDUCED ON CLARENCE CENTER ROAD

A neighbors' petition for a lower speed limit on the east end of Clarence Center Road paid off Wednesday night as the Clarence Town Board reduced the limit from 55 to 35 mph.

The growing number of homes in the area between Strickler and Hehr roads, plus town soccer fields and a church, made the action necessary, said Councilwoman Anne L. Case.

In other business, the board approved plans by Jean and Dale VanKuren to convert the vacant Old Lamplighter Restaurant at 6260 Goodrich Road in Clarence Center into a day-care center for preschoolers, with after-school programs for school children as well as summer
programs.

The VanKurens said they will also continue to operate their day care center at Clarence Center and Goodrich roads.

The board granted development plan approval for the 58-lot fourth phase of the Loch Lea subdivision in the Greiner-Transit roads area.

Contracts for next year with these volunteer fire companies were also approved after public hearings: Clarence Center, $263,185; East Amherst, $158,070; Harris Hill, $407,466; Rapids, $18,900, and
Swormville, $82,436.
