The East Aurora School Board this week received a status report of its ongoing capital reconstruction project from Ciminelli-Cowper construction manager Steven P. Dechert.

Dechert said construction on Phase 3 of the high school project -- essentially the library and several classrooms on the west side of the building -- is ahead of schedule and will be completed three months early. Dechert said that landscaping will follow immediately.

Superintendent Howard S. Smith said that he, Dechert and the project's architect will "re-visit" the project costs next spring in the hopes of adding several items that were originally left out due to construction costs. Smith said he based his rather rosy picture on actual bids from contractors coming in much lower than expected.

"We're well within our estimates right now," he said. "One thing we're going to look at is the lighting" and to see if the old units have to be replaced at the high school. Smith said floor tiling on the stairwells of the Main Street school could also be included.
